Adega Cooperativa de Murça was founded in 1963 by a small group of winegrowers led by Francisco Abel Carneiro Lopes. Integrated in the Douro Region, today with 750 co-workers and 800 hectares of vineyards, it has as its emblem the well-known Porca de Murça, carved in a granite monolith. The vineyard based on shale and quartzite soils protected to the west from the humid and temperate winds of the Atlantic and to the north of the cold and dry winds of Galicia provides a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot and dry summers and mild and not very rainy winters. These factors, influential in the typicality of the wines, combined with the strong commitment of the wine growers, have consolidated the image of the municipality of Murça as a region that produces great wines.
