Description

The Pera-Manca red from the 1990 harvest is a ripe, dense wine with powerful, complex flavours. It is made from Aragonês, a red grape variety much appreciated in the Alentejo, and is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

In colour, it is a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. The aroma has notes of roasted plum, dark redcurrant, cherry pie and chocolate, with a subtle bittersweet touch. On the palate, it's a powerful, robust wine with firm, well-integrated tannins. The aftertaste is long and persistent, with notes of smoke, dried meat and spices, making it ideal to accompany grilled or roasted red meat dishes, game or aged cheeses.

This wine is part of the history of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, which launched the first Pera-Manca reference in 1990, and since then it has been recognised as one of the best wines from the Alentejo. The Eugénio de Almeida Foundation is an institution of private law and public utility, based in Évora and created in 1963 by Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida. To promote the economic and social development of Alentejo, viticulture is one of the most important activities of this Foundation, which is dedicated to producing quality wines at Adega Cartuxa.
