2001 Château Calon-Ségur Saint-Estèphe red
Description
In this superb Saint-Estèphe terroir, power is a gift. The cellar master's job is to preserve the softness of the tannins, the freshness of the flavour and the natural character of the aromas. In short, he must respect the raw material harvested from the vines. The wine is aged in new oak barrels for 18 to 20 months. Filling with natural egg whites was reintroduced a few years ago. Calon Ségur's "Grand Vin" is the mirror image of its terroir: rare and authentic. With great ease, it reveals an enchanting lightness and incredible intensity. All the magic of Calon lies in this balance.
Calon-Ségur 2001 is ruby in colour, revealing aromas of wet earth, cranberries, cherries and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and elegant.
