Description

Vallado Reserva red is produced from old vines aged between 60 and 100 years, comprising more than 35 traditional Douro grape varieties, predominantly Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca. Following malolactic fermentation, it is aged for 18 months in 225-litre French oak barrels. It has a very concentrated aroma, with notes of fig, blackberry and tobacco, and subtle balsamic nuances from the wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied and meaty, with ripe, rounded tannins, finishing with an elegant, mineral, persistent and complex aftertaste.

One of the most prestigious Quintas in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, an estate once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the Ferreirinha, which is still in the hands of her descendants. Vallado wines have been unjustly forgotten and have now naturally recovered the time lost. They are wines of great importance in the history of the Douro and deserve to be in the top places.

Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest in the Douro. It is situated right next to Régua, on the banks of the River Corgo. The destiny of this emblematic Quinta is in the hands of João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both descendants of Ferreirinha, and responsible for the company's management and oenology, respectively.
