Description

The 2019 vintage is a blend between the Tempranillo (81%) and Mazuela(19%) varieties, being the vintage with the highest percentage ever when it comes to the Mazuela variety. The grapes that give rise to this blend now come from the La Plana vineyard within the Ygay estate, one of the highest altitude vineyards - around 485 metres. The wine-making and maturing processes are done individually for each grape variety, going into the blend 26 months after ageing in French oak barrels. Thus, this red wine presents itself as serious, harmonious, yet youthful, allied to the rusticity of Mazuelo. Fine tannins and excellent depth, this Rioja is a great classic with a huge potential for aging in bottle.

The origin of the wine company Marqués de Murrieta is also the starting point of the existence of the Rioja region.

Don Luciano Murrieta, a man of visionary ideas and dedicated to his utmost passion for wine, applied the techniques learned in Bordeaux, then produced the first Rioja wine in 1852, with the aim of making them endure in time. Years later, in 1870, he moved to Ygay Castle together with his business and this is where the story of this incredible, historic, and world-renowned producer begins, with the Marquis de Murrieta headquarters being declared a museum in 2019.

The estate is surrounded by 300 hectares of fertile land with ideal conditions for growing vines and in 2011 embraced the project to renovate the facilities, including the latest oenological technology to the values that make them unique.
