Description

In 1584, Jean de Pontac, the lord of Haut-Brion, donated several acres of meadows and vineyards to the Carmelite Order. This donation led to members of the congregation caring for the land for nearly two centuries in devotion to both their faith and wine production. In 1840, the estate was purchased by the Léon Colin family after being confiscated during the French Revolution. Their descendants, the Chantecailles, put years of work into enhancing the property, adding a chateau and landscaped grounds, before selling it to Patrice Pichet in 2010. From one family to another, these limited changes of ownership have helped preserve the spirit and magic of the place.

Nowadays, the Carmes Haut-Brion estate is the protagonist of an ideal setting. The ponds and canopies of the landscaped grounds are in dialogue with the vineyard plots: here nature converses in harmony in the midst of a beautifully preserved ecosystem. The urban climate harmonizes with the running waters of the Peugue River and provides the gentlest support for the vineyards.

Under the classic elegance of Pessac-Léognan, the great Carmelita wine presents a unique score. Cabernet Franc, in unprecedented proportions, offers silky power, relayed by the intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon. In this structure, Merlot develops a round and fine fruit: the balances are there and guarantee a style as complex as it is gourmet.
