Description

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest Grands Crus in the Bordeaux region. The first production dates back to 1252. The name of this property came about when Bertrand de Goth, the youngest of a noble family of the region and Archbishop of Bordeaux, became Pope in 1305 under the name of Clement V.

By reconciling the richest traditions with advanced techniques, Château Pape Clément wines are developed under the sign of the highest demands. Through hard work, in an exceptional terroir, the wines are simply exceptional! The estate is located in Pessac, a few kilometers from Bordeaux, and the 63-hectare vineyard comprises gravelly-sandy soils and clay-limestone soils in the iron-rich limestone subsoil.

Deep garnet in colour, the 2017 Pape Clément is composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, with a slightly closed nose at this youthful stage but showing aromas of plums in syrup, blackberries, with subtle tobacco and charcuterie notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and elegant with exquisitely ripe and energetic tannins, finishing the tasting fresh and mineral.
