Description

The Avril family has been established in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the 17th century. It was in 1896 that the first vintage of Clos des Papes was produced under the impetus of the great-grandfather of the estate's current owner, Paul-Vincent Avril.

After working towards the creation of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in 1936, he passed the business on to his son Régis Avril to continue his work. The latter made Clos des Papes known abroad, where sales now account for 75%.

Today, the vineyards cover a total area of 32 hectares, of which 29 hectares are for growing red grape varieties, most notably Granache, Syrah and Monastrell, and 3 hectares for growing white grape varieties, including Grenache Blanc. The meticulous care taken with its vineyards makes Clos des Papes one of the most appreciated French wines in the world.
