Description

After the first title-deed in Brauneberg on 17th April 1643, the company was founded in 1680 and its winemaking tradition can be traced back over 300 years of family history, always with the maxim: "Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar".

In 1774, the founder's grandson built a beautiful manor house with a garden in the architectural style that prevailed at the time. Almost a century later, in 1880, Max Ferd.Richter built a modern cellar housing one of the largest collections of wooden casks in the Mosel region.  The company is currently in the 9th generation of the family, with a member of the 10th generation, Constantin MF Richter, already taking an active part in its business since the summer of 2012.

The vineyard's name "Juffer" (medieval German: "Virgin Lady") reminds one of the nearby Convent which used to own large parts on that steep vineyard site. In Burgundian terms, the Juffer is regarded as a "Premier Cru". The grapes were hand-harvested and fermentation was temperature controlled in traditional old oak barrels, using the presence of indigenous yeasts. The result is a classic and vibrant wine, offering the combination of the mineral profile and the aromas of pear, dried flowers, light mint and smoke.
