2020 Niepoort LBV Port
Description
The Niepoort LBV Porto results from a careful selection of wines that age for several years before bottling, belonging to a category created to offer the complexity of a long-aged Port while remaining ready to drink upon release. On the nose, it reveals a bouquet of fresh figs and a subtle floral character, combined with vibrant red fruits. Hints of menthol bring freshness, while a gentle spicy nuance adds depth. The palate begins with an enveloping sweetness, gradually unfolding layers of fruit that lead into a drier, spicier finish. Balanced acidity provides freshness and supports its elegant structure, creating a profile that is bold, delicate and complex, with flavours that evolve harmoniously from start to finish.
In the Portuguese wine landscape, no producer is more universally respected than Niepoort, whose long history began in 1842 with the arrival of the first Van der Niepoort in Portugal.
Entering the Port wine trade as a merchant, he quickly established what would become a prosperous and enduring business.
Five generations later came Dirk Niepoort, a defining figure in the world of wine and widely recognised as one of the most influential personalities to have worked, and continue to work for the advancement of Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and better understand their vineyards, all while shaping his own legacy through the creation of consistently distinctive and unconventional wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort remains involved in numerous projects across nearly every Portuguese wine region, as well as several international ones.
