2022 Quinta do Noval Petit Verdot red (damaged label)
Description
This Petit Verdot monovarietal is the successful expression of this variety in the Douro terroir, producing a wine of exuberant character and individuality. It has a very intense colour that immediately conveys its personality. Expressive and with aromas of wild berries well combined with notes of sweet spices, coming from the ageing of 12 months in French oak barrels, it also reveals a tannic structure that improves the wine in the bottle.
The Quinta do Noval is distinguished by the beauty of its terraces, the house, warehouse, and typical presses, which are still in current use. First referenced in 1715, Quinta do Noval was acquired in 1894 by António José da Silva, who developed it over the following three decades. His descendants (recently the van Zeller family) maintained the farm until 1993 when it was acquired by AXA. In 1997, Quinta do Noval was a pioneer in centralising all its activities in the Douro valley, instead of in Vila Nova de Gaia. Its vineyards and Lagares produced the Quinta do Noval Nacional 1963, voted one of the 12 best wines of the 20th century by the American publication Wine Spectator.
