Description

Zorah Karasi Areni is a highly distinctive red wine made exclusively from Areni Noir, one of Armenia’s ancient indigenous grape varieties. Sourced from the highlands of Vayotz Dzor at around 1,400 metres above sea level, it comes from a phylloxera-free terroir with sandy soils rich in limestone and large stones, where the vines are grown on their own roots.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks using only natural yeasts, followed by around 12 months of ageing in large traditional Armenian clay amphorae, known as Karasi, partially buried in the ground, and a further 6 months in bottle. This ancient method preserves the authentic expression of the grape variety and its terroir.

The nose reveals a refined smoky character, with aromas of dark berries, herbs, pepper and aniseed. On the palate, it is deep, rich and textured, with expressive fruit, firm, well-defined tannins and a long, persistent finish. A wine of remarkable character, where altitude and tradition combine in a singular expression of Areni Noir.
