2023 Bagagem de Mão Alvarinho white
Description
The Bagagem de Mão Alvarinho white is made from a 22-year-old vineyard in the parish of Segude, in Monção. With granite origins and benefiting from a temperate Atlantic microclimate with continental influence, this wine begins with a manual harvest, followed by 12 hours of temperature-controlled skin maceration. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats, followed by ageing on fine lees with regular bâtonnage.
It has a citrus yellow colour and a clean, delicate aroma, revealing vegetal notes of eucalyptus, citrus fruits such as lemon and an intense minerality that reflects the stoniness of the soils. On the palate, it's structured and balanced, with excellent acidity that culminates in a long, persistent finish, making it a pleasant and refreshing experience.
Vinhos Bagagem is a project by Luís Moreira, a winemaker from Monção, whose aim is to valorise his homeland and the Alvarinho grape variety. The name ‘Bagagem’ honours the emigration of the 1950s to 1970s and the smuggling that took place along the River Minho. Winemaking began with the manual harvest of its oldest plot, planted in 2001, reflecting the dedication and care that characterise this project.
In 2022, it launched its first wine, Bagagem Alvarinho, which stands out for its authenticity and terroir, offering a unique experience that truly captures the character of Monção.
