2023 Barroca da Malhada red
Description
Barroca da Malhada red is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trincadeira and Touriga Nacional, made from hand-harvested grapes and crafted using an artisanal approach, with spontaneous fermentation and low intervention in the cellar. Ageing took place across a range of vessels, stainless steel tanks, first-use Portuguese oak barrels, third-use Portuguese chestnut barrels and amphora, contributing to the wine’s complexity and depth.
Deep ruby-violet in colour, it shows notable aromatic richness and concentration, combining ripe black fruit with balsamic notes and a subtle earthy undertone. On the palate, it is full-bodied and profound, with a marked structure and well-integrated tannins that faithfully reflect the aromatic profile. An intense, powerful red with a distinctly gastronomic character, designed for the table and for more demanding dishes.
Barroca da Malhada is an artisanal wine producer from Beira Interior, rooted in a historic estate dating back to the Middle Ages, once owned by the Viscounts of Tinalhas. With around five hectares of vineyards farmed organically and following biodynamic practices, the estate works schist-sandy soils of granitic origin in one of Portugal’s most mountainous regions. The wines reflect a low-intervention approach, favouring authenticity, freshness and a true expression of place.
