2023 Inóspito Almendra Vinhas Velhas red
Description
The Inóspito Almendra Vinhas Velhas red comes from an old vineyard, planted in 1850, located between 200 and 250 metres of altitude in the Douro Superior sub-region, near the parish of Almendra. The hand-harvested grapes come from poor, schist-based soils, giving the wine a unique profile, fresh, complex, and structured, without any tartaric correction. The fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, carried out in foot-trodden granite lagares. The wine is aged for 18 months in new and used French oak barrels (Bertrange forest). This wine, the result of a field blend of more than 45 grape varieties, reflects the minerality, acidity, and freshness of the terroir, being a pure and authentic expression of the Douro.
Geographic Wines is a project by Daniela Matias and Nuno Morais Vaz, aiming to create wines that showcase the authentic characteristics of the grape varieties and the terroirs from which they originate.
