2023 Max Ferd. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG Uralte Reben white
Description
The Max Ferd. Richter Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling GG Uralte Reben is an exceptional wine, made from the oldest vines of the iconic Wehlener Sonnenuhr, with vine ages dating back to between 1890 and 1900. The term "Uralte Reben" refers to very old vines, whose deep roots impart a unique complexity to the wine.
This dry Riesling, with the GG (Grosses Gewächs) designation, reveals refined aromas of peach, apricot, and delicate floral notes. On the palate, it is extraordinarily elegant, with a smooth texture and a long, persistent finish, marked by the precise minerality of the slate soils from the Mosel region.
After the first documented purchase of a vineyard parcel in Brauneberg on April 17th, 1643, the company was officially founded in 1680, establishing a winemaking legacy with over 300 years of history. Since then, the family has adhered to the motto: "Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar." In 1774, an elegant manor house was built, and in 1880, the modern winery was established, housing one of the largest collections of wooden casks in the Mosel region. Today, the company is in its 9th generation, with Constantin MF Richter, from the 10th generation, actively involved in the business since 2012.
