Description

Zorah Heritage Chilar is a highly distinctive white wine made exclusively from Chilar, an ancient indigenous Armenian grape variety cultivated in the highlands of Vayotz Dzor, at altitudes ranging from 1,400 to 1,500 metres. The grapes are sourced from different plots of 30- to 40-year-old vines planted in low-vigour soils rich in limestone and large stones, within a phylloxera-free terroir where the vines remain ungrafted.

Fermented and aged in traditional Armenian clay amphorae known as Karasi, with around 60 days of skin contact, the wine continues ageing in local clay amphorae for approximately 9 months, followed by a further 10 months in bottle. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, and the wine undergoes only very light filtration before bottling.

On the palate, it is beautifully balanced and textured, combining rounded yet fresh flavours of pear and white peach with a subtly grainy structure. The finish is long, pure and linear, marked by a fresh citrus character, resulting in a white wine of remarkable personality and character.
