2024 Barroca da Malhada Alicante Bouschet red
Description
Barroca da Malhada Alicante Bouschet red is made from hand-harvested grapes and crafted using an artisanal approach, with spontaneous fermentation and low intervention in the cellar. Ageing takes place in stainless steel tanks and second-use Portuguese oak barrels.
Deep ruby in colour, almost opaque, it shows an intense and layered nose, where ripe black fruit is complemented by balsamic notes and a subtle smoky touch. On the palate, it is structured, powerful and expressive, with excellent acidity and a long, distinctly gastronomic finish.
Barroca da Malhada is an artisanal wine producer from Beira Interior, rooted in a historic estate dating back to the Middle Ages, once owned by the Viscounts of Tinalhas. With around five hectares of vineyards farmed organically and following biodynamic practices, the estate works schist-sandy soils of granitic origin in one of Portugal’s most mountainous regions. The wines reflect a low-intervention approach, favouring authenticity, freshness and a true expression of place.
