Description
The Hugo Mendes Pitau Lisboa Clarete is crafted from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, and is bottled without stabilisation, which may result in the formation of tartaric sediment, particularly after prolonged exposure to cold.
The name “Pitau” revives the family nickname of Hugo Mendes, originating from the Ribeira de Santarém, as a tribute to the producer’s roots and to the values that shaped him both personally and professionally.
The wine shows a light, youthful and very elegant profile, expressing the freshness and delicacy typical of a modern clarete, created to be enjoyed with pleasure and spontaneity.
Born and raised in the Ribeira de Santarém, Hugo Mendes studied Biotechnological Engineering, but his passion for wine soon prevailed, and since the 2006 harvest he has dedicated himself fully to oenology. A strong advocate for communicating the art of winemaking to consumers, he is an active presence on social media and has maintained a blog since 2008, aimed at demystifying oenology for wine lovers. He became an independent producer in the 2016 harvest, launching Portugal’s first wine-funding crowdfunding campaign to make it possible.
