Description

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest Grands Crus in the Bordeaux region. The first production dates back to 1252. The name of this property came about when Bertrand de Goth, the youngest of a noble family of the region and Archbishop of Bordeaux, became Pope in 1305 under the name of Clement V.

By reconciling the richest traditions with advanced techniques, Château Pape Clément wines are developed under the sign of the highest demands. Through hard work, in an exceptional terroir, the wines are simply exceptional! The estate is located in Pessac, a few kilometers from Bordeaux, and the 63-hectare vineyard comprises gravelly-sandy soils and clay-limestone soils in the iron-rich limestone subsoil.

The 2018 Pape Clément is a blend of approximately 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels. Medium to deep garnet in colour, it shows vibrant notes of black fruit such as cherry, plums and raspberries, followed by violets, star anise, cardamom and camphor. On the palate, it shows medium to full-bodied, providing stimulating energy, offering crisp black berries and layers of exotic spices with a solid structure of ripe tannins, finishing long and mineral.
