The company was founded in 1926, by Messias Baptista, who kept the administration of the company until 1973. The administration of Caves Messias is still today, ensured by descendants of the family Messias. Since the foundation Messias has produced and marketed wines from the main demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Port Wine. The company is also renowned for the high quality of its Natural Sparkling Wines and Brandies.
Messias headquarters is located in Mealhada, a small town in the Bairrada region, where the company owns 160 hectares of vineyards, 70 hectares of which are used to produce the prestigious Quinta do Valdoeiro wines. In Ferradosa, in the Douro valley, it has 200 hectares, 130 of which are planted with vines for the production of Port and Quinta do Cachão Douro wines.
