The iconic gin brand was founded in 1830, when Charles Tanqueray, at just 20 years old and a descendant of David Tanqueray, a member of the British Royal Family, created an innovative botanical recipe and became a distiller of exceptional-quality gin.
He established his small distillery in Bloomsbury, a district near London, where he used the waters from Finsbury Spa, renowned for their reputed rejuvenating properties. During this period, Tanqueray London Dry Gin, named after its production process, quickly emerged as the finest gin available in the region.
The bottle that accompanied it was inspired by 18th-century English fire hydrants, becoming a symbol of prestige and distinction for the brand.
