Quinta da Lixa is living testimony to the passion that the Meireles family has always had for Vinho Verde.

This family, which already owned vineyards located around the small village of Lixa, decided in 1986 to create a small company that would become what is now Quinta da Lixa. The wine produced was initially sold in bulk, but it was soon realised that its quality and acceptance were such that bottling it on the estate was imperative. Due to the increase in production, it became necessary to build new facilities to replace the original winery, where it was no longer possible to maintain the standard of quality that characterised the company's wines.

In 1999 Quinta da Lixa bought a new property, Quinta de Sanguinhedo, with 30 hectares, 20 of which were planted with vines. The company now has a total of 105 hectares of vineyards spread over the following Quintas: Quinta da Lixa, Quinta da Corredoura, Quinta do Souto, Quinta Nova, Quinta de Sanguinhedo and Quinta dos Lagareiros. With new vineyards at the beginning of the century, the company is strongly committed to diversifying its wines, placing a number of varietal wines and sparkling Vinho Verde wines on the market.
