Description

Jose Cuervo has been producing tequila for over 250 years always with the same experience, technique, and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. In 1758, the King of Spain Fernand VI offered José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés one of his estates to plant agave on his land for tequila production. In 1795, King Charles IV issued a royal decree in Spain adejudicating Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo y Montana the first license to produce and distribute tequila. The first medal given to Tequila Jose Cuervo was at the second Exposición de Las Clases Productoras, an exhibition held in Guadalajara in May 1880.

Jose Cuervo was the first brand of tequila to be individually bottled, making it easier to transport to meet the growing demand in Mexico and across the border. Just as Champagne can only be made in France, or Scotch can only be made in Scotland, from 1974, the spirit entitled "Tequila" had to be produced in certain states in Mexico.
