Description

For over 250 years, Jose Cuervo has been producing tequila with unwavering expertise, techniques, and recipes passed down through generations. In 1758, King Ferdinand VI of Spain granted José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés a property to cultivate agave for tequila production. In 1795, King Charles IV issued a royal decree awarding Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo y Montana the first license to produce and distribute tequila. The first medal awarded to Tequila Jose Cuervo was at the second Exposición de Las Clases Productoras, held in Guadalajara in May 1880.

Jose Cuervo was the first tequila brand to be individually bottled, facilitating its transportation to meet the growing demand in Mexico and beyond the border. Just as Champagne can only be made in France and Scotch in Scotland, starting from 1974, the spirit called "tequila" had to be produced in specific states of Mexico.
