2013 Montes Purple Angel Valle de Colchagua red
Description
This excellent wine represents a whole new dimension of the Carmenère grape variety, the long-lost grape variety that has recently re-emerged in Chile after being presumed extinct in Bordeaux, its place of origin. Aurelio Montes waited to release a Carmenère, preferring to take his time and work with the 'new' variety until he was satisfied that his wine would be of a high standard, Montes' best production. The wait was worth it: this beauty (a blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot, matured for 18 months in new French oak barrels) is touched by the wings of an angel... a Purple Angel!
