Description

The noble Bosq family started growing grapes in 1365. The estate was bought in the 18th century by Scotsman George Smith, who gave his name to the property. After acquisition, he began exporting his wine to England in his own ships and made a name for himself in this way. In 1842

Duffour-Dubergier, Mayor of Bordeaux and an enthusiastic winegrower, inherited Château Smith Haut Lafitte from his mother and raised the wine to Grand Cru Exceptionnel level. Years later, the company distributing these wines - Louis Eschenauer - made the decision to buy the property in 1958.

Decades later, the Cathiard family fell in love with Château Smith Haut Lafitte, eventually acquiring it in 1990. Its excellent tradition has perpetuated and the family's motto is based on "doing everything possible so that each vintage of red and white wine is worthy of our magnificent terroir".
