The Martinez Gassiot was founded in 1790 by Sebastian Gonzalez Martinez, wine seller of Porto, cigarettes and Sherry, from his office in London. In 1822, Martinez teamed up with John Gassiot and by that time, acquired a Cellar, in Vila Nova de Gaia where, to date, the firm has large stocks of Port wine aging in oak casks. In 1961, the company moves to Bristol Harveys Company focusing only in the Port trade. The management of production in Portugal from the 60's, is made in conjunction with Cockburn`s despite the style of their products and their stocks were always kept separate.
