2020 Casa Santos Lima Opaco red
Description
The properties of Casa Santos Lima are located in the municipality of Alenquer, 45 km north of Lisbon, in a region where the winegrowing tradition is centuries old and the typical rural landscapes appear with enormous beauty.
The vineyards extend over gentle slopes at altitudes of between 100 and 220 meters, with excellent sun exposure and a climate tempered by the gentle sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, which is about 26 km away. The predominant type of soil is clay-limestone, from the Upper Jurassic period, and numerous examples of fossils of marine life have been found, including traces of dinosaurs (Apatosaurus alenquerensis).
The replanting of the vineyards has been done at a regular rhythm since 1990, with the noblest Portuguese grape varieties, which here present a unique regional character, and also, to a lesser extent, with the best international varieties. In the more than 200 hectares of vineyards belonging to the Santos Lima family, one can find an enormous diversity of grape varieties.
