1967 Canadian Club 6 years
概要
In 1858, the American Hiram Walker, decides to found his whisky distilling company, located in the city of Detroit, launching to the market the first whisky under the brand name Hiram Walker's Club Whisky.
At this time, the state of Michigan was trying to pass a dry law and in order not to be hit with the restriction or prohibition of the sale of his products, Hiram took his factory to the Canadian city of Windsor, province of Ontario. Over time, the brand of distillate came to be labelled Club Whisky, and finally, as a tribute to the country, in 1889, Hiram renamed it Canadian Club, both to distinguish his product from drinks from the United Kingdom and to indicate the addition, in the recipe, of new ingredients that are now known as the true Canadian whisky.
The economic importance of the company to the locality was immense, to the extent that a town was created in connection with the distillery, named Walkerville, in 1935.
Canadian Club whisky was one of the main brands smuggled during the American Prohibition period in the 1920s and 1930s.
