2013 Covela Reserva red
In a natural amphitheatre with southern exposure on the slopes of the Douro River, situated on the border between the granite zone of the Vinho Verde Region and the schist region of the Port Wines, Quinta de Covela has been situated since the 16th Century. With panoramic views over the river, the estate has 49 hectares, 18 of which are planted with vines, spread over two parishes of the Baixo Douro, São Tomé de Covelas and Santa Cruz do Douro, renowned for their extraordinary natural beauty and rich cultural history.
In more recent times, Covela belonged to Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most important European filmmakers from the middle of the last century to the present day. The director, also a "Renaissance Man", transformed the farm on several fronts, building aqueducts, massive walls, stone houses, and granite threshing floors to dry the corn grown here.
