2015 Telmo Rodríguez Molino Real Mountain Wine Málaga white 50cl

Molino Real is a unique wine produced in Cómpeta, Málaga. Its process begins with nine hectares of vineyards at different altitudes, planted with the Moscatel de Alexandria variety (also known as Moscatel Graúdo), which benefits from the steep slopes of oxidized palaeozoic slate and traditional "asoleo" (sun-drying). The result is an extraordinary concentration. The 2015 harvest was hot and early but prolonged by rains in September. The production of Molino Real is demanding: 2.5 kg of grapes are needed for one litre of must. The wine is fermented and aged in 225-litre barrels for 20 months, resulting in a complex and unique flavour that reflects the quality and care throughout the process.

The great wines of the past were often sweet: Tokaji, Sauternes, Vin Santos, Madeira, Late Harvest Rieslings, and Vin de Paille, all associated with the great wine regions of the Old World. In the 1990s, Telmo Rodriguez decided to revive what had undoubtedly once been the most important of all: the "Mountain Wine" of Malaga. They faced difficult, almost impossible vineyards that miraculously survived thanks to the tradition of raisin production. They worked the ravines of Competa for over 20 years, producing confidential wines such as MR, Old Mountain and Mountain Blanco, which helped to breathe new life into viticulture that might have disappeared.
