2016 Tapada do Chaves Vinhas Velhas red
Produced from the Trincadeira and Grand Noir varieties, from the old vines planted in the tapada in 1901 and harvested manually. Concentrated ruby color. Aroma showing great complexity, balsamic, cistus, earth, tobacco, with black fruit and plum, side by side with more distinctive and surprising vegetable notes. Acidity is firm, fruit with well balanced structure and firm tannins. Very long and persistent finish, in a different level of expression and character.
It is in the surroundings of Portalegre, in the lands of the Alto Alentejo, that the Tapada do Chaves wines are produced. For almost 100 years, this estate has given rise to wines of recognised quality which are among the best in Portugal.
Tapada do Chaves wines preserve the warmth and softness of the Alentejo region and are associated with a strong family tradition and a history of passion and dedication to the land. Originating from the vineyards of the estate that gives them their name, aged between 15 and 85 years old, these are wines to treasure and later savour to the full.
