Alión, whose name refers to the area in León where the patriarch of the Álvarez family was born, is located just 15 kilometers from the headquarters and in a very similar location, between the Duero river and the Valladolid motorway to Soria, near the wine capital of Ribera, Peñafiel.

The first vintage to come to market, 1991, was made at the Vega Sicilia estate, but from 1993 the Alión brand had its facilities following the acquisition and refurbishment of Bodegas Liceo. The winery was again refurbished in 2001 to introduce wooden fermentation tanks in line with the Vega Sicilia winemaking style.
