2017 Rufia white

Estate led by João Tavares de Pina, impulsive and daring character, located in Penalva de Castelo, at 500m altitude, with 40 hectares of which 13 are vineyards, in a beautiful granite valley, surrounded by forests with more clayey areas, where you breathe tranquility of nature. João and Luísa practice agriculture without chemicals and sow complementary plants that are a guarantee of ecosystem balance and protection against diseases and pests. Alongside the older vineyards, they are rebuilding a huge diversity of native varieties (Terrantez, Uva cão, Arinto, Rufete, Bastardo...), giving a 2nd life to the farm and the style of the wines. Until 2013, it is a classic inspiration for wines produced with a base of Jaen and Touriga national, aged in wood and with long bottle aging, the new range of the Rufia explores the elaboration of young, fresh, acidified and with vegetal touches, from natural vinifications, with the minimum of intervention and low level of SO2. João makes unique wines made with knowledge and sharp tannins, by someone who thinks by his own head and invests in a defense of (his) land and its autochthonous components, against the massification of a taste for interests that destroy the local identity. The result is wines impregnated with character that do not go unnoticed, some revealing the potential of aging and others the energy of Dão.
