However, it was in 1996 that a new era of excellence began, when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the family estate from his wife, Joana Lemos van Zeller. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has led a work of dedication and passion, creating unique wines of recognised quality both in Portugal and beyond.
The acquisition of Quinta Vale D. Maria by the Aveleda group in 2017 represents the continuation of this legacy, adding a long-term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is based on a passion for every detail, which begins with the manual selection of the best berries, continues with the use of traditional winemaking methods and ends with the careful selection of the best French oak barrels.
