Founded by Jean Samalens in 1882, the company is now owned by Samalens family. The current generation is represented by Pierre, son of Georges Samalens, great-grandson of Jean. The house of Samalens is located in Laujuzan, in the middle of vineyards and oak forests in the heart of Bas Armagnac region, where the best Armagnac is produced. Wines are selected exclusively in the area between the Bas Armagnac and, for almost everyone, a small territory traditionally called Grand Bas Armagnac. Samalens is the largest distillery in the region, with eight alembics, the oldest dating back to the nineteenth century. Samalens represent the best quality from Bas Armagnac, and some very old reserves, such as the 1888 vintage.
