Zacapa XO is a unique balance of complex aromas and flavours, resulting from the exclusive blend of reserve rums aged between 6 and 25 years, aged in Sistema Solera. The older and younger rums are then blended as they age in a sequence of barrels, where previously matured American whiskies, fine wines Pedro Ximénez. It finishes its maturation period in ex-Cognac barrels.

Rum Zacapa was first created in 1976 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Zacapa, a town in Guatemala, located approximately 112 km from Guatemala City, where this Rum is produced. It is made from the first pressing of virgin sugar cane, aged using the Sistema Solera method and then selected and blended by Master Blender Lorena Vásquez.
