英国ハロッズ（百貨店）の「ウイスキー読本」で“シングルモルトのロールスロイス”と評されたことでも有名なモルト・スコッチ・ウイスキー。ザ・マッカラン蒸溜所は、ハイランドで2番目の政府登録蒸溜所として1824年、正式に発足しました。しかし、蒸溜の歴史ははるかに古く、このあたりがまだマッカラン教区と言われていた18世紀初めには、すでに名が知られていました。クレイゲラヒーの浅瀬を渡り、都会に牛を売りに行く牧童たちによって、マッカラン農場の＜いのちの水＞は広められ評判となっていったのです。
