The Cos, as it was known, was born at the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man who had only one passion - the small Cos estate - which he considered to be so special, that in 1811 he decided to start bottling its production. Unfortunately, his passion turned out to also be his misfortune as, in order to expand and beautify the estate, he ended up incurring numerous debts and it was sold in 1985.

The Château eventually passed from hand to hand until it reached the Prats family (also producers of Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d'Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner.
