The story of Bodega Contador begins in 1995, when Benjamin Romeo, winemaker and grape grower, acquired a centuries-old cave dug into the rock beneath the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja. In 2008, Benjamin finished his new state-of-the-art winery, built in the hills of Rioja, surrounded by his vineyards. Benjamin's wine production is relatively modern, with individual plots of vines grown at very low yields and vinified separately, before ageing for a relatively short period of 18 to 20 months in new French oak.
