Vidigal Wines
Wines with a Portuguese soulVidigal Wines
Wines with a Portuguese soulVidigal Wines is a family-owned company producing still and fortified wines, located in the Leiria area, in central Portugal. Founded in the early 20th century, the company had several owners until the charismatic António Mendes Lopes took over management in the 1990s. Since then, Vidigal has undergone significant changes and technological advancements, enabling it to produce around 3 million bottles per year. With approximately 90% of its production exported, Vidigal is one of Portugal’s most international wine companies, selling around 40 wines across more than 30 countries.
In the Lisbon wine region, where it is based, Vidigal Wines maintains partnerships representing around 450 hectares of vineyards, strongly influenced by the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in fresh and highly fruit-driven wines. The company also extends its presence to other Portuguese wine regions through partnerships in Tejo, Douro, Alentejo, Dão, Beiras and Vinho Verde, reinforcing the diversity and authenticity of its portfolio. Among its most iconic references is Porta 6, one of the most successful Portuguese wine brands internationally and one of the best-selling Portuguese wines in the United Kingdom.
In 2021, Vidigal Wines became part of the Abegoaria Group, strengthening its international presence and growth capacity. This acquisition combined Vidigal’s strong export tradition with the scale and diversity of one of Portugal’s most significant wine groups, with operations across several of the country’s wine regions.
