The rarity of the Alvarinho grape variety, the low production, and distinction leads these grapes to be the most valuable in Portugal.
The quality of the grapes comes from natural soil and microclimate reasons, but also from cultural practices of those who delicately treat the vines and carefully ascertain the best state of ripeness for harvesting, a capital phase for the definition of the wine's performance.
In the vinification process, Quintas de Melgaço follows traditional oenological methods and practices, considered to be the most appropriate for the sub-region, which contribute to extracting all the quality from the grapes that arrive at the winery. It is in this phase that Quintas de Melgaço carefully gives its own identity to the wines it produces. Before bottling, the technical specialists make sure that the wine has the correct chemical composition, is duly clear, and presents good tasting qualities. For certification, the wine is submitted to the laboratory of the Comissão Vitivinícola da Região dos Vinhos Verdes, which, after approval, issues the guarantee seals. There is great concern about the quality of the bottle and the cork so that the wine develops well in the bottle and behaves well in the glass.
