Originally from the Portuguese mainland, the Boal variety has large bunches and resistant skin. It is grown at an altitude that varies between 100 and 300 metres, and for this reason produces medium-sweet wines, medium-bodied and rich, which are highly appreciated for their balance of acidity/sweetness and their characteristic aroma acquired during cask ageing.
