1986 Shinshu Komagatake Vintage Sherry Cask n.º 448 (bottle n.º 234) 72cl
Description
Located between Japan’s Southern and Central Alps, at just over 2,600 feet above sea level, Mars Shinshu is the highest whisky distillery in the country. The Hombo family has a long-standing tradition of shochu distillation, dating back over a century, and expanded into whisky production in 1949. At the time, the distillery was based in Kagoshima Prefecture, on Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost main island. In 1984, the Hombo group relocated the distillery to the picturesque village of Miyada, in the south of Nagano Prefecture. This site was chosen for its cool climate, which allows for slower maturation, and its abundant supply of pure water filtered through soft granite rich in sulphur.
