Fonseca is part of the first category of wine producers in the Vintage Port since the middle of the 19th century. The Fonseca Vintage Port wines are known for their exuberant fruity that develops great opulence and complexity with age. Their wines appeal to the enthusiast and connoisseur, perhaps more than the Vintage Ports of any other house because they are an inspired production and a deep knowledge of viticulture and terroir.
Only in exceptional years, Fonseca declares a classic Vintage Port. Only the best wines, selected for their great intensity, depth and great potential for ageing, are bottled as Vintage. On average, this happens three times per decade. Renowned for its voluptuous rich fruits, great density, structure and tannic, they are balanced wines with a great complexity.
