Description
One of the biggest icons among the Burgundy Grands Crus, the celebrated Clos de Tart is one of only six monopole Grands Crus - a denomination that belongs entirely to a single producer, which holds exclusivity over this particular terroir. Its history goes back to a 12th century abbey built by Cistercian nuns of the order Notre Dame de Tart. The vineyard has remained monopolistic ever since. The fame of this legendary vineyard dates back to the 12th century and the property changed hands four times since the Middle Ages, passing through the Marey-Monge family that owned all the vineyards of Romanée St Vivant, before being acquired by the Mommessin family, which later sold his business to Jean-Claude Boisset (current owner) of the large Burgundy wine family, but kept the Clos de Tart winery.
