2012 Cortes de Cima Reserva red
Description
In 1988, a Danish and American couple set sail on a sailboat in search of a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine. A dream out of a fairy tale, which gave birth to the history of Cortes de Cima, today one of Portugal's leading wineries.
Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family estate run daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, with 140 hectares of vineyard, where Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho are planted. The oldest vines were planted in 1991 when Syrah was not permitted under the region's regulations. Even so, Hans, convinced that he had the ideal climate and soil for this variety in the Rhone, created the first Syrah wine, not legalised, produced in 1998 and marketed under the name Incógnito which quickly gained fame in Portugal and medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.
