Description
A blend of the best Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes from Le Mortelle’s finest vineyards. Ampio started out as an idea and became a reality in an exceptional vintage that reflects and represents the fullest expression of Maremma’s terroir.
Ampio delle Mortelle is dark ruby red in color. Its nose expresses its distinctive character with notes of coffee and black pepper accompanied by pleasant aromas of small dark berries, blackberries and blueberries. Its captivating bouquet is completed by delicate hints of aromatic herbs, chocolate and wild mint. On the palate its impact is powerful and extremely elegant with silky tannins. A lengthy, mouth-filling finish offers light notes of licorice and black cherries.
Fattoria Le Mortelle is located in the heart of Maremma, Tuscany, a few kilometres from Castiglione della Pescaia, in an extraordinary and fascinating position both for nature and for the history of the surrounding places. Since 1999 the family has been working both in the vineyards and in the new winery with the conviction that the area, still emerging on the Italian wine scene, is highly suitable for the production of quality wines and that here the characteristics of the terroir and the grape varieties grown can be expressed at their best. The estate covers 270 hectares, 170 of which are vineyard.
The Antinori family has been dedicated to wine production for over six hundredyears. Since then, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Throughout its long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always managed this activity directly, making innovative and sometimes brave choices, but always maintaining an unchanged respect for tradition and territory.
