2020 Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione red

Deep ruby red in colour, it has aromas of black cherries, rose and delicate notes of milk chocolate and cocoa. It's a lively, vibrant wine with a bouquet of floral sensations of lavender, iris and saffron, with a characteristic long, savoury finish.

Badia a Passignano Gran Selezione is produced exclusively from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the estate of the same name located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. The vineyards extend over limestone-rich soil with an average clay content at an altitude of approximately 300 metres above sea level. Ageing takes place in the historic cellars of the 10th-century Badia di Passignano.

The Antinori family has been dedicated to wine production for over six hundredyears. Since then, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Throughout its long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always managed this activity directly, making innovative and sometimes brave choices, but always maintaining an unchanged respect for tradition and territory.

Badia a Passignano is situated on Sambuca Val di Pesa, 3 km south of Tenuta Tignanello, covering a total area of 223 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines. Its fundamental importance in the history of Chianti is recorded in hundreds of volumes, now kept in the State Archives in Florence, which give information about the Sangiovese vineyards and crops in the region. As confirmation of this, in 1983, in the land around Badia a Passignano, a thousand-year-old vitis vinifera plant, was found.
